Palin's Resignin'
Sarah Palin has announced that she will resign as Governor of the State of Alaska, effective July 26.
She did not explain exactly why she is resigning, although she repeated her recent complaints about her family being the butt of jokes, mentioning that her son Trig, who has Down's Syndrome, was "mocked and ridiculed by some mean-spirited adults recently."
Setting aside her newly found concerns for family members, speculation about why she intends to step down centers on the possibility that she wants to run for President in 2012, given her slightly veiled claim earlier this week that she could beat President Barack Obama in a race for the White House.
Albeit less likely, another possible reason she is resigning is that she has become aware of adverse information about her that will soon become public. Rumors persist about whether it is she or her daughter Bristol who is the biological mother of Trig, and scandals around allegations of personal intervention in legal matters involving family members caused considerable dismay even among members of her own party in the Alaska legislature. Furthermore, aids to Senator John McCain continue to let fly quite a few stories about her ignorance, her obstinacy, and her lack of self-control in spending campaign funds while she was the GOP nominee's running mate.
So, what's the real reason Palin's resignin'?
Only time will tell, but you betcha that the soon-to-be-former governor has her eye on the White House; and if the Republican Party has the common sense to slam the door on her aspirations, she could very well keep her ambition alive by other means, as I cautioned months ago in my November 2, 2008, article, "Sarah Palin, All on Her Own."
In the months ahead, if Ms. Palin does, indeed, plan to keep her burgeoning ego fed by the public limelight, she can be assured that she will have an ample and continuing supply of excuses to trot out her special, transparently disingenuous brand of manufactured outrage, if from no other source, then certainly from here, where she will get all the respect those who are pridefully ignorant, pompously hypocritical, and unintentionally ludicrous deserve.

Quite frankly, I'm glad she's resigning. I'm tired of reading about her and her family. They're just not that interesting to me...Even though she and I share one of the same names: trailer trash. Hopefully, once we find out why she's resigning, the media will stop giving her so much attention. If she has higher political aspirations, perhaps, whatever dirt is currently hiding will blow out and halt such aspirations.

So, now she's going to go after blogtopia, and that mean state-run librul media, too. Also.
Palin, failin', bailin', flailin':
The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans has fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims.
"To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as 'fact' that Governor Palin resigned because she is 'under federal investigation' for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation," Van Flein said in a statement. "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."
Anchorage Daily News:
Anchorage attorney Peter Maassen, who last fall successfully defended legislators sued in an effort to stop the "Troopergate" investigation of the governor, said Van Flein would have an extremely hard time winning any legal action.
"If (Palin) is actually a public figure, which clearly she is, there has to be actual malice involved, in my understanding of defamation law. That would be very hard to prove. ... It's a very, very high bar if it is a public figure," he said.
Moore said she always characterized it as rumors and never claimed it was fact. She said she has no idea if Palin is under investigation for the construction of her house or anything else, but that the governor's resignation from office was so out of character it's raising questions about what's going on.
"I haven't defamed the governor, I reported on speculation and rumor in Alaska. ... It's not my rumor; it's been out there for 10 months and the First Amendment protects me," Moore said. "Even if I didn't say it's 'rumors and speculation,' I'm still protected -- I would just lose credibility, which I'm not willing to do."

It looks like Palin's possible scandal has to do with their home that was built two months before she began campaining for governor. Supposition is that the building company who built a hocky arena (awarded the contract by Palin) supplied the materials for the house...and the house is worth a whole lot more than a trailer.
So, I think, if this is the case, she should be called house trash, or perhaps, mansion trash...maybe even lake house trash.
After all, there's a lot of trash out there, and a big portion live in better and more expensive residences than trailers. They need to be called by the correct dwelling/trash, such as; condo trash, mansion trash, house trash, apartment trash, tent trash, trailer trash, vehicle trash, semi-truck trash, RV trash, under-the-bridge trash, shack trash, motel trash, hotel trash, and whatever other type dwellings/trash there are.
Sorry-I get carried away, sometimes:)

After all, there's a lot of trash out there...
And a lot of it is narcissistic trash. ;o)

Nothing to contribute in terms of speculation why she resigned, but I agree with the many others who say that it will be extremely difficult to resurrect her political career after this mid-term resignation.

TPM has the full text of her resignation speech, from the transcript at the gov's site.
"...So, I quit!"*rolling eyes*
I watched the whole (bizarre) eighteen minute speech on Hardball, but the site only has 7 minutes of it up.
Jed Lewison at Kos has it, too.
Jed also has a short video up in which Andrea Mitchell reports that sources close to Palin are claiming that she has told them that she is "out of politics, period".
Is this a politically smart move on Palin's part? (D'oh, I should not put "smart" and "Palin" in the same sentence. Does not compute!)
I've got a feeling that there's more yet to come on this.
