This is the final lecture of the economics classes I teach, and it is here that I abandon all pretense of "objectivity," which is to say that it is here that I stop pumping out standard principles of economics thinking as if it is "truth" in some absolute, universal sense. Although in some parts, where I must gruesomely over-simplify concepts and philosophical constructs because of the time constraint, I mince no words and spare no feelings. This lecture is 55 minutes of hard-core, unapologetic academic speech at roaring volume.

Oh...
I meant to ask you about that tax item you mentioned last night -- and I wonder: would that be called a pole tax?
*evil laugh*
Back to unwinding.
Wrote Dark Wraith:
Good evening, Moody Blue.
I was getting a little bit worried about how quiet it was around here. When it gets too quiet, that's when the ghosts and hauntings and disembodied voices and poltergeist activity kind of stuff starts getting pretty noticeable. (Long-buried ghosts of taxes from the past? That's when it's time to get some of those exorcism folks to get over to the building ASAP!)
The Dark Wraith doesn't like it when the paranormal gets noticeable.

Wraith,
It has seemed much quieter at most of the places I visit on a regular basis, lately. Friday was even more so. Maybe more people are having Spring Fever? I sure do. Gosh, it sure is nice to finally be outdoors on a warm day.
I don't know about long-buried ghosts of taxes from the past, but taxes aren't really such a bad thing in our times. Taxes are our investment in each other, as a human society. Those clowns that were teabagging about taxes (and darn near everything else under the sun) did so in public parks and places that are paid for by tax dollars, which were patrolled by law enforcement who are paid for with tax dollars, and they drove to those places on public roads which are paid for by tax dollars. WTF?
I'm not a ghost, yet. When I am, maybe I will still haunt this place! (Or maybe I'll just haunt you! And I'll promise to be a friendly ghost. Whooo-oooo-ooo!)
;-)

From your "Dark Twitter" sidebar:
New home construction has fallen to the second-lowest level ever recorded, and foreclosures jumped 17% from February to March.
An interesting website featuring Foreclosure Real Estate Listings can be found at http://www.realtytrac.com/. Hit the link and up pops a U.S. map with states delineated. Click a state and you're off and running. Or, simply type in a zip code for specific areas. Unfortunately, only somewhat limited information is available without registering.
Entering "Lone Tree, Colorado" elicits the response: "53 properties match your search."

Good evening, Peter of Lone Tree.
I suppose I should check the listings around the country to see if there's anything in undeveloped woodlands. A nice little mobile home in the forest with a clearing for crops would work well in a post-apocalyptic world.
I might spring for one of those double-wide trailers just in case any of the regulars here needed a place to crash.
Besides, I could probably use some help building the perimeter fences and defense systems. I'm sort of favoring concertina wire on the fences and maybe some ferocious cats for the main defense.
This might work, provided I can find some cheap land with relatively safe well water and an unobstructed uplink to a couple of satellites for broadcasting the blogs and the radio show.
The Dark Wraith ought to draw up some plans while things are still relatively calm.

Dammit, Wraith.
You know that I try to make Friday nights my "unwind, kick-back, shake off the week" nights, and now you've gone and cranked up my BP. Again.
You are awesome, my friend.
