Special Announcement:
The Compleat Bloggrrrlz Gallery
Although every effort has been made to include all of the best of the women bloggers, if you know of one we've missed, send Shakespeare's Sister an e-mail message. Also, if your blog is already in the Gallery and you would prefer that it be removed, just drop us a message; we'll pull it immediately.
And finally, if you like the Bloggrrrlz Gallery, let us know; but more importantly, let other people know. In fact, you can put the Bloggrrrlz logo link on your own blog by copying one of the following two code snippets into your sidebar:
For a black background logo, use this snippet:
For a white background logo, use this snippet:
And be sure to visit the Gallery regularly.
The Dark Wraith insists.

I finally got blogscream up on my blog. Thanks for creating the smaller version. :)
And, thanks for including me on blogscream and the bloggrrrlz gallery. You're a sweetie.
the freshest, most dynamic, most interesting voices in the Blogosphere
Aside from yours...
But let's not set the bar too high. After all, I occasionally post utter crap simply to amuse myself. :-)
Thank you once again for all your work on this project, Dark Wraith. You have my eternal gratitude.
My email address, for anyone who wants to submit their blog for inclusion, is shakespeares_sister@comcast.net.
Yay, Yay! We're so very honored to be included with this fine group. And double thanks for posting the code - I was going to email you about it but now I don't have to!
P.S. to ShakesSis: did you know that your blogroll, contacts, etc. don't show up in FireFox? They work fine in IE, but not in Firefox, at least not for me. Keep meaning to tell you and not getting to it.
I don't want to cause trouble Dark Wraith more than I usually do...Wait a sec...Yes I do...
The Blogggrrrlllzzzz is very peachy.
But I am a techno idiot...
I am finding that as I look at the varios blogggerrrrllzzz blogs I can't seem to get the link to copy so I can link them up to my other blogs if I want.
Sure, I know I can do some extra click clicks to get it, but I'm wondering if a URL at the top of each blog when you open it in bloggerllzzz would be effective or helpful...
Just me causing trouble again....
Ok, I am even more confused because I pasted the white background code into Pissed On Politics and it worked just fine.
I pasted the black backgournd code into Revolutionary Paradigm and the background is still white.....I'll double check...I must have done something wrong...LOL
Nope, its the .3png on
http://revolutionaryparadigm.blogspot.com/ and the background is white
and the .2png on http://pissedonpolitics.blogspot.com/ and the background is also white. On Rev Par there is a black outline around the bloggrrllzz logo.....
did you know that your blogroll, contacts, etc. don't show up in FireFox? They work fine in IE, but not in Firefox, at least not for me. Keep meaning to tell you and not getting to it.
Yes, I know. Sigh. I don't know how to fix it, though. If any techies want to view my source code and make suggestions, they would be welcome.
Good evening, Kat.
The blogScream screen looks nice on your sidebar. And again, I need to thank you for keeping after me to get the mini screens working. It looks like they're getting quite a few downloads.
The fact of the matter is that a number of people who couldn't get the full-size version to work actually had sidebars that could accommodate the width of the screen, but they would have to have put some trapping tags around Snippet #3, and the particular tags would have depended upon structural elements in their cascading style sheets. In other words, the big screens would have worked, but I would have to have written a piece of customization code for each and every user.
The mini screens are small enough that such a customization isn't necessary. I was actually surprised when I saw that the Green Knight, whose blog has a really thin sidebar, was able to successfully implement the mini. That means it can fit in just about any blog out there.
Now, let's see if we can actually talk every blogger into putting it up. The real problem is that it looks like there are more than three dozen of those screens running as of tonight, and I need to go through and track down the ones on blogs I don't know about so I can see the implementations.
The Dark Wraith goes a-trolling.
Good evening, Shakespeare's Sister.
You know, earlier this evening I got an e-mail message with an inline picture that nearly brought my heart to a stand-still.
Folks, this is what Shakespeare's Sister sent me.
Is that beautiful, or what?
I now live in a part of the country where the nearest White Castle restaurant is a drive of at least several hours. With gas prices so high, I might not have a White Castle double cheeseburger with extra onions and pickles for many months to come, so this picture will have to do for the duration of my starvation days.
It's better than nothing, though.
The Dark Wraith drools.
Hey, Elise. I need to thank you. After School Snack was one of the blogs that announced the opening of the Big Brass Blog, and you even mentioned and linked to The Dark Wraith Forums in that post you did way back when.
The Dark Wraith never forgets.
Good evening, NeoCon Crusher.
Well, yes, I suppose it would be something of a courtesy to put links to those blogs on the Gallery. The reason you can't just right-click to capture the shortcuts for the URLs is because those aren't real hyperlinks: they're embedded links within javascript "jumpto" statements.
If you know what I meant by that last sentence, you know more javascript than you probably should to live a normal and meaningful life.
On the one hand, if I put the direct links in, I could end up diminishing the level of traffic to the Gallery. On the other hand, if the architectural technique I used there is really as durably popular as it is gee-whiz popular, people should return to the site whether or not the direct links are available.
I'll have to think of a way to make the direct URLs available on the site. I can't just put them in where the names of the blogs are located; that region is a delicate fabric of javascript code that would get all kinds of fussy with blunt HTML tangled in it.
I'll think of something.
Thanks for bringing it up... I think.
The Dark Wraith's work is an ongoing process toward perfection never to be attained.
Good evening, Paradigm Shifter.
The problem is that I set the transparency for the black background image to black, but it's behaving badly as a transparent PNG graphic. That happens sometimes, especially when a black transparency image is not put against a really dark background. What I'll do is pull the transparency out of the image, and that will give it a true black background.
The Dark Wraith uploads the new graphic.
Good evening, Shakespeare's Sister.
I'll pull the hood on your code at some point Saturday and figure out what's going on with the Mozilla interpretation of your blogroll.
Those who regularly read this blog know my sentiments about Firefox: even though I deeply despise Microsoft corporation for its past business practices, I have nearly gone to madness and cursing as I try to get code to work even somewhat consistently across the four major blowsers out there right now, knowing full well that better than 80% of those hitting the blog are using Internet Explorer, and knowing full well that the biggest differences in how code is interpreted are coming from Firefox.
The good part is that, at first, I was reducing code to very simplistic elements to avoid the aggravations of wildly different renderings from one browser type to another; but now, I'm better able to see how to make things work across browsers, although there are some things that simply cannot be resolved until later releases of Firefox come out.
What really concerns me is Internet Explorer 7: a whole lot of old HTML has been set for death, and IE 7 might very well be where the endtime comes for all of those old HTML tags that are still in so much code on millions and millions of Web pages. Even some of my old stuff on the Web is written entirely in HTML. No cascading style sheet stuff whatsoever. Those pages are going to be rendered dead unless I go back and re-code everything in CSS.
God. What a project that's going to be!
Anyway, I'll hack your code Saturday and see what's up.
The Dark Wraith probably should have used a word other than "hack."
Good Morning Dark Wraith,
I understood what you ment by those being screen shorts....
I should clarify...
I dont think you should making clickable, working URL's....
In my mind, I am seeing the URL for the particular blog at the top of the screen shot so that a dummy (like me) could simply cut and paste the URL into their favorites, a new browser, or into their blogs link list.
Again, its just me.
Reality is, anyone can find the blogs with a few extra clicks or google search.
I was just thinking it it were super simple (such as having "copy and paste URL into your favorites" at teh top of the screen shot)it may increase link-backs and traffic even more.
Does that make any sense or am I just being a computer idiot?
Dark Wraith,,
That should read "screen shots"..
I really need to learn how to proof read.
The black background on bloggrrllzz button looks nice
(ie your fix worked)
Good morning, NeoCon Crusher.
The "screen shorts" did catch my attention. For the ever-so-slightest moment, I wondered what graphic I had accidentally put up that would elicit such a description.
Now, concerning your recommendation for providing the links, I do agree with you that I should put them in. If I get really ambitious, I'll add a couple of neat little tricks over the next few weeks.
Also, I've been tempted to add a couple of stupid little extras here on The Dark Wraith Forums, but I'm not entirely sure of which ones are most appropriate, right now. In a couple of years, most people will have switched to some kind of broadband, so Websites can get a whole lot heavier with features; but right now, that's not the case, so I have to be mindful of load times for the majority of people coming here.
One way or the other, a Dark Wraith's work is never done... which is a good thing, since wraiths stay on Earth only as long as they have something to do.
The Dark Wraith keeps busy.
Good morning Dark Wraith...
I think it is just me that would find it useful.
Let me give you the example as to why I suggested it.
The other day I had my template open on Rev Par while at the same time looking at the bloggrrllzz galllery.
Then I thought to myself:
"Well, since I am here, I should add some of these blogs to my links...."
I found myself unable to get to the blog right away or find the link. I noticed when I moused over the blog name, my browser on the bottom would display
"javascript:jumpto(blog)"
but if I went down to try to grab the URL the display went away.
Needless to say, inpart because I am lazy, and in part because I was doing other things, I gave up on adding bloggrrlllzzz blog URLs to my blog for that time being because I realized it was going to take longer than I originally thought to add the URLs. Getting the URLs was going to take me a couple of extra clicks.....and oh God, we all know how long an extra couple of clicks takes...LOL
Oh yeah,
IMO they should not be functioning URL's because that would take people away from the bloggrllz gallery.
Bu the URL should be readily availbale to encourage linking and saving to favorites etc.
Good morning, Paradigm Shifter.
I don't recall whether or not it was you who mentioned it, but someone had noted that the graphic for the Bloggrrrlz Gallery was coming up with a border around it. This is generally a site-specific artifact, and the border can be thwarted if it shows up on your blog by adding the following string before the closing ">" in the "img src" tag:
style="border:0 0 0 0"
This will kill a border if one is showing up. If a person actually wants a border, it can be added in several ways by using the "style" attribute, but with values other than zeroes. For example, a thin, uniform border in the default border color of the CSS would have this attribute specification:
style="1px 1px 1px 1px"
To make a more 3-D looking border, the trick is done like this:
style="1px 1px 2px 2px"
To use a color of choice rather than the default from the CSS, you have to specify each border separately, like this:
style="border-top:1px solid #666; border-right:1px solid #666; border-bottom:2px solid #999; border-left:2px solid #999"
The one above will create medium gray, thin, solid bordering top and right, and lighter gray, slightly thicker, solid bordering bottom and left.
Those numbers following the # signs are RGB color values, and those can be set, of course, to any of the 256 values in the color set.
The Dark Wraith hopes this helps.
Good afternoon, Dark Wraith.
Thank you muchly for the offer to check out my code. If only White Castle delivered, I would send you a year's supply. :-)
Shakespeare's Sister remains in the Dark Wraith's debt.
Ah, Mr. Wraith.. I downloaded a new toy for testing. It is a browser called "OffByOne" and your blog is interesting to say the least, since the browser is such that one can install it to a floppy and carry it around and has no java support. The comment window here is about 1"x 1 3/4", which is even more interesting. However, it does have the virtue of being non-MS and being tiny.
Have a pleasant night/morning...
Posted by Wild Clover, who is unable to recall how to log in to blogger and have her name show up...
Hey, Wild Clover, thanks for that heads up on the little mini-browser.
And by the way, did you notice that in the sidebar on the right, there's a link that jumps you right to the Blogger sign-in screen? Once you've signed in, you can just come back to the blog, click on "Comment" at the bottom of a thread, and you'll automatically be commenting under your handle.
Then again, now that I see that last paragraph, it doesn't look as simple as I thought it would.
The Dark Wraith contemplates all the things that seem simple in theory but rather complicated in print.
Actually, the thing I forgot is my password-Opera has a password function, and if I don't use one of my normal sign ins, I tend to forget whatever it was. I was playing in "OffByOne", and so did not have the auto function due to cookies.
I'm an excessively lazy goose at times.
(Actually, I was using the wrong sign-in-It worked this time).
Thanks so much for adding me! What an honor!
Good evening, Francesca.
You are more than welcome. As I may or may not have told you previously, you have a unique and fresh perspective, and your blog address matters, particularly those of an international nature, that cannot be found elsewhere. That makes your blog—like each blog, in its own way, in the Gallery—unique.
Keep doing what you're doing. Somehow, all of this blogging is bound to have some positive effect on the otherwise grim future we face.
The Dark Wraith heads back up to the top of the blog.
